About the Western Tobacco Prevention Project
Our Vision
The
Western Tobacco Prevention Project’s (WTPP) vision is to enhance the
wellness of American Indian and Alaska Native communities by providing culturally
appropriate tobacco education and prevention resources through training,
technical support, collaboration and advocacy with a commitment to excellence.
Priorities
• Promote respect for the sacred use of traditional tobacco
• Promote cessation services
• Prevent youth initiation
• Reduce exposure to Secondhand Smoke
• Counter tobacco company advertising on tribal lands
Activities
• Provide culturally appropriate training on Tobacco, Health, Policy
& Traditional use.
• Provide technical assistance to NW tribes around tobacco program
development and implementation.
• Disseminate culturally appropriate tobacco education information,
cessation guides and material resources.
• Support state, county and tribal partnerships.
Funding Source
Funding for the WTPP is provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
(Contract # 907-00-01) and the Washington State Department of Health’s
Tobacco Prevention and Education Program ( Contract # N12228)

Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB)
